A New Chapter Begins
In 2020, a bright-eyed 7-year-old entered our lives through foster care. His spirit and smile lit up our world. However, it was clear that his reading challenges were holding him back—not just academically, but emotionally. His struggles spilled into other subjects and chipped away at his confidence.
As we looked for ways to support him, research pointed us toward a powerful insight: children learn more effectively through social interaction than through passive instruction. This approach, known as social learning, emphasizes reciprocal teaching, discussion, and collaboration—and has been shown to significantly boost both academic performance and motivation.
Guided by this understanding, we created a more interactive, connection-based way to approach reading. And we watched him thrive. In August 2023, we officially adopted him. By age 11, he had jumped from two years behind to the 95th percentile in reading.
His journey inspired this project: a reading companion that helps every child grow through connection, conversation, and the joy of shared stories.
